The expansion will take place over the next 18 to 24 months and will be geared, among other applications, towards equipment intended for high-density data centers, artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).

The project is part of the investments the company is making to expand its production capacity in response to the growth of data center infrastructure in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Increased production of power and cooling systems

The expansion will allow for increased production of power supply systems, electrical switchgear, and thermal management technologies. These latter technologies include liquid cooling solutions for installations with high power densities.

The increase in AI workloads is raising the electrical and thermal requirements of data centers, especially in facilities that use large concentrations of accelerators and other high-performance computing systems.

This evolution is driving the development of power architectures capable of supplying higher power levels and cooling systems that allow the heat generated by the equipment to be extracted.

A project of 22,000 square meters

Vertiv plans to add approximately 22,000 square meters of new manufacturing space to its Slovak campus over a period of 18 to 24 months. In addition to increasing production capacity, the company intends to consolidate various engineering, operations, and manufacturing functions at the site.

The integration of these activities aims to facilitate the adaptation of systems to the requirements of different projects and reduce the lead times associated with their manufacture and delivery. The expansion will also increase the production capacity available in EMEA for certain components used in digital infrastructures.

Infrastructure for AI data centers

Part of the new capacity will be geared towards power and cooling systems for data centers running artificial intelligence workloads.

AI model training and inference utilize computing infrastructures with high concentrations of processors and accelerators, which can significantly increase the electrical power required per rack.

This increased density in turn raises new thermal management needs.

Liquid cooling is being incorporated into certain installations as an alternative or complement to traditional air-based systems, especially when thermal densities make it difficult to efficiently extract heat using conventional systems.

Reduce infrastructure deployment time

Vertiv also links the expansion to a reduction in the time needed to deploy new computing capacity for AI. The company uses the concept of *time to token* to describe the period between the deployment of the physical infrastructure and when AI workloads can begin running on it.

From this perspective, the availability of power and cooling systems is one of the factors that can determine the construction and commissioning times for new data center capacity.

The increase in regional manufacturing seeks to reduce some of these timeframes and address projects that require deploying high-density infrastructure.

Expansion of manufacturing in different regions

The investment in Nové Mesto nad Váhom adds to other capacity expansion projects undertaken by Vertiv in various countries. The company has recently developed initiatives related to its manufacturing facilities in Ireland, Italy, and Croatia within Europe.

It has also expanded capacity in Malaysia, Mexico and the United States.

These investments are linked to the growing demand for physical infrastructure for cloud data centers, enterprise facilities, colocation operators, and platforms for artificial intelligence.

Strengthening the supply chain in EMEA

Expanding production in Slovakia will provide greater manufacturing capacity within the EMEA region. Locating production capacity closer to the markets where projects are being developed can reduce certain logistical routes and facilitate coordination between manufacturing, engineering, and delivery.

Vertiv intends to use the campus as an integrated site combining production activities with technical and operational functions. The company also plans to increase its capacity to handle configurations tailored to the specific requirements of different facilities.

Hundreds of new jobs between 2027 and 2029

The project will also have consequences for the campus workforce. Vertiv expects to create hundreds of new jobs between 2027 and 2029.

The new hires will be distributed across manufacturing, engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, technical functions and management positions.

The company also plans training and professional development programs associated with the growth of the facilities and the technical needs of the new production capacity.

Capacity for cloud, colocation, and enterprise data centers

The equipment manufactured on campus will be destined for different segments of the digital infrastructure. These include cloud and hyperscale service providers, colocation operators, neocloud providers, and enterprise data centers.

The additional capacity will also be geared towards mission-critical facilities and high-density computing systems.

With the expansion of Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Vertiv will increase its European capacity to manufacture electrical and thermal systems for a generation of data centers where the growth of AI is raising the requirements for power, density and cooling.
