The platform will be used in different processes related to the network lifecycle, from planning new installations and expansions to capacity management, maintenance and incident resolution.
A centralized inventory of fiber infrastructure
One of the implementation goals is to centralize the technical information currently associated with the different elements of the network. KeyCom will allow for the registration and consultation, from a single environment, of the assets that make up Aire's fiber optic infrastructure.
Centralization aims to reduce the dispersion of information across different systems and facilitate the use of a single database by the departments involved. This approach can be especially relevant as a network grows in size, the number of installed components increases, and modifications become more frequent.
GIS technology for network management
KeyCom uses Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, which allows it to link the elements of the telecommunications infrastructure to their location. The use of geographic information facilitates the representation of the network and the querying of the different assets deployed across the territory.
Technical teams can use this data to analyze existing infrastructure before making expansions or modifications and to obtain information about the resources available in different areas.
Planning of new infrastructure
Aire will also use the platform for its network planning and expansion processes. Before expanding a fiber optic infrastructure, it is necessary to understand aspects such as existing routes, available assets, and the capacity of different network segments.
Integrating this information into a GIS platform allows for monitoring the infrastructure's status before planning new installations. This enables engineering teams to use a common information base during the design of expansions and other projects related to network growth.
Network capacity management
Another planned function is capacity management. The system will provide information on infrastructure resources and use this data to determine the needs associated with new connections or expansions.
Available capacity is a relevant parameter in telecommunications networks that are constantly evolving and must incorporate new services, customers, or coverage areas. Keeping this information up to date facilitates the planning of necessary interventions before certain network segments reach their operational limits.
Maintenance and incident resolution
KeyCom will also support infrastructure maintenance tasks. The availability of centralized information on the location and characteristics of assets can facilitate the identification of affected elements when an incident occurs.
Operations teams can consult network documentation to analyze the problem and determine which components or sections require intervention. This same information can then be updated to reflect modifications made during maintenance.
A common database for engineering and operations
The implementation also aims to improve information exchange between the different departments involved in network management. Engineering, planning, operations, and maintenance will be able to work from a common source of technical data.
This model reduces the need to maintain separate records for each department and makes it easier for infrastructure modifications to be reflected in the system used by the rest of the teams. Updating this information will be especially important during expansions, component replacements, and other operations that modify the physical network configuration.
Prepared for infrastructure expansion
The choice of KeyCom is also related to the need to adapt management tools to the growth of Aire's fiber network in Spain. As coverage and capacity increase, the platform will be able to incorporate new assets and infrastructure modifications within the same management environment.
The agreement between Aire and Keypro will therefore focus on using KeyCom as a system to document and manage the evolution of the fiber network, integrating geographical information, asset inventory, planning, capacity and maintenance into a common platform.
