The Sagrada Familia Civic Center and the Antoni Puigverd Gardens have been selected in collaboration with the City Council to host the monitoring and field testing of Smart Building (energy efficiency for buildings) and Smart Urban Lighting (intelligent public lighting) solutions, respectively.

The multinational consulting and technology firm has just completed the first phase of the project, which involved the design and development of the demonstrators in a laboratory setting (web prototype). The initial integration of both pilot projects has also been undertaken using the Arrowhead framework (technology architecture). This framework facilitates communication and information exchange between different services and is based on previous ARTEMIS projects such as SOFIA (Smart Objects For Intelligent Applications), in which Indra actively participated. Following the deployment phase, both pilot projects are expected to be operational by September 2015.

With a budget of €80 million and the participation of 78 entities from 11 countries, Arrowhead is co-financed by the European Union and the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism under the Artemis program of the Seventh Framework Programme. The project's main objective is to increase energy efficiency and make energy use more flexible through cooperative automation in buildings, public infrastructure, industrial processes, and the energy sector using embedded technologies.
