The technical basis of the research is that optical technology is capable of transmitting information with the least delay (time between sending data and reaching its destination), while electronic technology is capable of grouping connections from thousands of users.
This work was carried out in collaboration with Telefónica R&D within the ePhoton/One+ network of excellence, funded by the European Commission. ePhoton/One+ focuses its efforts on coordinating research groups from both universities and companies across Europe. Thanks to this network, companies like Telefónica R&D can collaborate with universities such as the Autonomous University of Madrid to find solutions to real-world problems, thereby facilitating technology transfer and improving the flow of knowledge from the university to society.
