Field measurement.1Background: In 1998, the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) published its “Recommendations for Limiting Exposure to Electric, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Fields (up to 300 GHz).” The limits specified in those recommendations have been mandatory for more than ten years. However, recent studies have raised the need to change the limits for low frequencies. These findings have been taken into account in the new “Recommendations for Limiting Exposure to Electric and Magnetic Fields (1 Hz – 100 kHz),” published in 2010. The new limits, applicable to both occupational and public settings, allow considerably higher magnetic field strengths in certain low-frequency ranges. In contrast, the limits for electric field strength are stricter.

Although the new limits will be gradually incorporated into national legislation, Narda's measuring equipment already allows for assessments in accordance with these standards. Customers who invest in Narda instruments now will be able to perform measurements compliant with the future standards.
