The commissioning of this first data center, which will have a capacity of 40,000 servers (and an area of 4,000 m²), is planned for the end of May 2017.
Just days after acquiring the property, the OVH group is ready to begin fitting out its first data center in the UK, which will house up to 40,000 servers. True to its commitment to agility, the company anticipates bringing the data center online by the end of May 2017 through its Discovery offerings and, subsequently, its full commercial portfolio.
The data center will be connected to OVH's London point of presence via a dual fiber optic cable. Finally, the proximity of two substations offers the possibility of significantly increasing the facility's electrical capacity.
The other two data centers planned by OVH in the UK will allow them to offer users a backup solution, with a second location on the outskirts of London and a third geographically far enough away to be outside the failure domain of the other two, thus enabling the implementation of a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP). Of course, and like the group's other data centers, all three will be connected via vRack, the private network developed by OVH to facilitate the deployment of multi-site infrastructures.
Following the announcement last October of the opening of three data centers in Australia, Singapore, and Poland, OVH continues its investments in Europe. To finance its global expansion project, the cloud specialist carried out a €250 million capital increase in 2016 with investment funds KKR and TowerBrook, and announced a €1.5 billion investment plan over five years; enough to finance the construction of several more data centers by the end of 2017 in the United States, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany, where OVH has just acquired its first site not far from its Frankfurt headquarters.
At the end of its deployment plan, OVH will offer its customers the possibility of choosing data centers located in 11 countries across 4 continents, all interconnected by its own network, which currently has a capacity of 7.5 Tbps.
