• Data Center Design and Construction – Submer will leverage its expertise to design and build next-generation liquid-cooled data centers, facilitating the transition from air cooling to liquid cooling (Direct Liquid Cooling and Immersion Cooling). These sustainable, high-density facilities will efficiently support AI workloads, paving the way for the future of IT infrastructure.
• Data center management and AIaaS – With the growing adoption of AI, Submer is launching a data center management and Artificial Intelligence as a Service (AIaaS) business unit, which will offer a vertically integrated infrastructure – from the chip to AI applications – to corporations that need to scale efficiently and sustainably.
Meanwhile, Submer's immersion cooling business unit will continue operating unchanged alongside these new initiatives, maintaining its focus on driving liquid cooling adoption and accelerating AI-ready infrastructure. With these latest announcements, Submer reinforces its position as a leader in liquid cooling innovation for data centers.
Hundreds of megawatts across Europe, starting in Barcelona.
To demonstrate its new capabilities, Submer is already developing its first innovative 56MW data center, which it owns and operates, in Barcelona. This facility will be the first phase of further deployments across Europe. The facilities will showcase innovation in liquid cooling, integrating a vertically optimized ecosystem that supports more than 150kW per rack or tank.
The Barcelona facilities will set new benchmarks in energy efficiency and sustainability, leveraging liquid cooling technologies to reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs, and reduce water consumption to zero. Enabling higher computing densities with improved thermal management paves the way for a new era of AI-enabled data centers that are more efficient, scalable, carbon-friendly, AI-enabled, and environmentally responsible.
A legacy of innovation.
Founded in 2015 by Daniel Pope and Pol Valls, Submer's mission is to build data centers that make sense, with a strong focus on sustainability, efficiency and smarter use of resources to make the data center industry more planet-friendly and lead the way to a greener future.
Submer recently secured a new funding round, backed by leading impact venture capital funds such as M&G Catalyst, Planet First Partners, Norrsken, and Mundi Ventures. Prior to this, Patrick Smets joined as CEO to drive expansion and accelerate business operations. Submer has strengthened its teams and senior management by bringing on board industry experts with deep experience in data centers, AI, and sustainable infrastructure. With this team, Submer is confident and well-positioned to drive the next wave of growth and innovation.
Before founding Submer, Daniel Pope had been managing data centers since the early 2000s and has been at the forefront of industry innovation for over 25 years. With deep expertise in managed data center infrastructure and cloud/AI software solutions, he will now lead this new strategic initiative, driving the next generation of sustainable, AI-ready infrastructure.
“Our mission is to ensure that companies can efficiently scale AI workloads while reducing their environmental impact. The launch of our first 56MW facility in Barcelona is just the beginning. Submer is here to redefine how the world powers AI and builds data centers that make sense,” says Daniel Pope, co-founder of Submer.
