Equinix will connect its data centers globally to expand interconnection opportunities for businesses
Equinix, Inc. has announced the next phase in the evolution of its global platform through the direct, physical and virtual connection of its International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers around the world, allowing businesses to connect on demand to any customer from any Equinix center.
The new inter-metropolitan connectivity will be included in Equinix Cloud Exchange™ (ECX), which will now be called Equinix Cloud Exchange™ Fabric. This new service will leverage the software-defined networking (SDN) capabilities already built into ECX to allow any company to dynamically connect to its own infrastructure across Equinix locations or connect with any other customer on the company's global platform, regardless of location. Customers will be able to customize their connectivity with partners, customers, and suppliers through an interface that provides all the advantages businesses expect from "as-a-service" models: real-time access via a portal or APIs, pay-as-you-go billing, and seamless connectivity across different metropolitan areas.
The new ECX Fabric benefits are immediately available at all ECX hubs in North America and EMEA, including Amsterdam, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles, Manchester, New York, Paris, São Paulo, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Stockholm, Toronto, Washington, D.C., and Zurich. In Q4 2017 and early 2018, ECX Fabric will expand to seven additional regions in North America and Europe: Denver, Düsseldorf, Geneva, Helsinki, Miami, Milan, and Munich. In 2018, Equinix will extend connectivity to São Paulo, Brazil, and across areas within its ECX Fabric hubs in Asia-Pacific (Hong Kong, Melbourne, Osaka, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo).
With this expansion, any Equinix customer will be able to efficiently interconnect to its global platform and request connections to any of the more than 1,000 companies currently part of ECX Fabric. This includes some of the world's largest companies, cloud service providers (including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud), and SaaS providers (including Salesforce, SAP, and ServiceNow, among others).
Equinix expands its Internet Exchange to nine additional markets
In addition, Equinix has announced the expansion of Equinix Internet Exchange into nine new areas across EMEA and the Americas in the fourth quarter of 2017 and early 2018: Amsterdam, Denver, Dublin, Frankfurt, Houston, London, Manchester, Milan, and Stockholm. Equinix Internet Exchange enables companies that generate internet traffic, including ISPs and content providers, to easily and effectively peer and expand their operations globally. Equinix is the world's leading Internet Exchange provider, serving the most networks (1,100 ASNs), carrying the most traffic (over 7,500 Gbps peak global traffic), in the largest number of locations (31 areas worldwide across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC).
