The latency reduction achieved with maxCache 2.0 offers a direct benefit to end users in data centers. For example, Shopzilla reports that a five-second latency increase results in a 10 percent increase in revenue and a 50 percent reduction in required hardware, while major financial institutions are seeing record profits thanks to a half-second latency increase. Amazon, on the other hand, notes that every 100 milliseconds of latency leads to a one percent drop in sales.
“Data centers have a wide range of needs that PMC addresses uniquely through our innovative solutions and our ability to work closely with customers to optimize our products for their specific environment and application,” said Jared Peters, vice president and general manager of PMC’s Channel Storage Division. “With the launch of the 6Q Series, PMC has reinforced its commitment to providing intelligent solutions that address the most pressing challenges facing data centers.”.
The 6Q series with maxCache 2.0 also improves I/O throughput, enabling data centers to process more transactions with a single server and reduce the overall number of servers required. This lowers capital and operating expenses, including energy, cooling, and maintenance costs.
The 6Q controllers will come standard with Zero Maintenance Cache Protection, the patented supercapacitor backup solution that eliminates the maintenance and environmental costs of lithium-ion battery-based solutions. By eliminating these batteries and reducing power consumption and cooling requirements with maxCache 2.0, the 6Q series is the industry's greenest SSD caching solution. In addition to the 6Q series with maxCache 2.0, PMC is launching the 6T RAID controllers with recessed top connectors, offering maximum installation flexibility in data centers with high server density.
