“The RS814 is designed to meet the growing needs of businesses while maintaining a competitive price,” said Nicole Lin, Product Manager at Synology Inc. “By combining strong performance, high reliability, scalability, and enhanced features for businesses, the RS814 guarantees users a comprehensive storage solution at an ideal value.”
The RS814 is designed to offer an optimal price-performance ratio. Powered by a 1.33GHz dual-core CPU with link aggregation, the RS814 delivers read and write speeds of over 210MB/s and 130MB/s, respectively, under a RAID 5 configuration for Windows® environments. Overall performance is enhanced by the integration of a floating-point unit (FPU) and 1GB of DDR3 RAM, enabling faster multimedia processing and multitasking. In addition, the RS814 comes with a new hardware encryption engine, surpassing the previous generation of 4-bay rackmount NAS devices by delivering up to 60% faster read and write speeds when transferring AES 256-bit encrypted files.
The RS814 was designed with system reliability in mind: it features hot-swappable hard drives and two Gigabit Ethernet ports with failover support to ensure uninterrupted service. A new hard drive tray lock further secures drives against unauthorized or accidental removal.
The RS814 runs on DiskStation Manager (DSM) 4.3, an intuitive operating system that provides a suite of applications designed to enhance workplace productivity. Synology was voted the “PCMag Business Choice Award 2013 winner” and received top scores in every aspect of the survey, including reliability, overall satisfaction, value, and likelihood to recommend.
