Thanks to updated and more powerful features—including integration with data center infrastructure, an advanced management console, support for more programming languages, and new collaboration capabilities—and extensive global availability, more developers can benefit from private PaaS technology for their cloud deployments.

OpenShift Enterprise, launched in November 2012, is a core component of Red Hat’s vision for the open hybrid cloud, providing application developers with a scalable, elastic, pre-configured development, testing, and hosting environment so they can focus on coding new application services with reduced operational overhead. OpenShift automates much of the provisioning and management of application platform systems, enabling IT operations teams to more easily meet the growing enterprise demand for new application services. OpenShift Enterprise is built on a trusted suite of open source technologies, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, and OpenShift Origin, the open source PaaS project that underpins Red Hat's OpenShift PaaS platform suite.

Since its launch in November 2012, Red Hat has added more than 45 new features to OpenShift Enterprise through four product releases, incorporating several features first available in OpenShift Online, the company's fully supported public PaaS service. OpenShift Enterprise 2 reinforces Red Hat's leadership in open hybrid cloud and PaaS and introduces several new features that facilitate the use and deployment of private PaaS:

- Integration with data center infrastructures, simplifying the deployment of OpenShift on OpenStack through OpenStack Orchestration (Heat) templates, enabling plugin-based integration of OpenShift with external router infrastructure and load balancing, and providing an OpenShift Enterprise installer, accelerating the benefits of cloud computing for IT.

- An advanced management console, providing IT operators with a smoother PaaS experience and greater visibility into applications, users, and the overall capacity of their PaaS platform.

- Support for the latest programming languages, giving developers access to a wide variety of popular programming languages, allowing them to maximize application creativity and innovation while meeting the company's business requirements. As a multilingual PaaS, in addition to Java, Ruby, Python, PHP, and Perl, OpenShift Enterprise now offers Node.js for server-side JavaScript.

New collaboration capabilities allow developers to easily share access to their applications for team development, bringing the benefits of community-driven innovation to the enterprise.
