For years, Schneider Electric has incorporated lithium-ion technology—also known as Li-ion—into its power protection solutions, such as its industry-leading three-phase UPSs and the APC by Schneider Electric Back-UPS range. Now, it is also incorporating Li-ion batteries into its Smart-UPS single-phase UPSs with the new Smart-UPS On-Line range.

By incorporating Li-Ion technology, Smart-UPS On-Line offers several maintenance and cost savings benefits:
Longer lifespan: Li-Ion batteries can last for more than 10 years.
Smaller size and weight: With higher energy densities, Li-Ion batteries are smaller and weigh approximately 30% less than lead-acid batteries.
Lower maintenance and total cost of ownership: With twice the battery life, maintenance and related costs over the UPS's lifetime are reduced by up to 53%.
Safety: APC by Schneider Electric provides a proven safety record, with best-in-class design and guaranteed compliance with safety standards (UL 1973, UL1642 / IEC62133).
• Improved performance at higher temperatures: Lithium-ion batteries can operate at higher average temperatures (e.g., 40°C) without compromising UPS performance.
• Extended runtime: Smart-UPS On-Line can be configured with multiple Li-ion battery packs to achieve longer runtimes as required by the market and ICT equipment.
• Remote management capabilities: Available with a pre-installed Network Management Card (NMC), this solution can improve visibility in edge environments by incorporating monitoring and control functionalities.
The solution can connect to Schneider Electric's cloud-enabled EcoStruxure™ IT platform, allowing customers to leverage data-driven insights into the status of their UPS devices, thus simplifying maintenance and optimizing performance.
Currently, more and more IoT applications and systems are being deployed at the edge to reduce latency and improve connectivity and performance. These distributed IT environments have become critical and fundamental to the operations of many businesses. APC by Schneider Electric's Smart-UPS On-Line with Li-Ion battery addresses an industry need by offering higher performance and a longer lifespan.
“Edge locations often lack IT staff with the expertise to handle responsibilities such as power management. Inadequate UPS maintenance can lead to unplanned outages, disrupting business operations and resulting in costly repairs. The new single-phase UPS with Li-Ion technology from Schneider Electric enables customers to operate more efficiently and significantly reduce the costs and risks associated with managing their power protection equipment,” says Oscar Pons, Product Manager ITB Iberia at Schneider Electric.
APC by Schneider Electric is the market leader in integrated physical infrastructure and software.
