“The Avocent Universal Management Gateway combines the revolutionary new Trellis platform, designed to provide real-time data collection and monitoring, with our industry-leading IT infrastructure management technologies (KVM over IP, serial console, and service processor management) to enable more effective and comprehensive data center infrastructure management,” said Steve Hassell, president of Emerson Network Power’s Avocent company. “In addition to allowing customers to manage embedded service processors from any brand of server in their data center without having to purchase additional management software, this appliance also integrates capabilities traditionally provided through various disparate facility and IT devices into a single 1U product with four times the functionality in 25% the size, improving data center space and resource utilization by up to 50%.”.
Available in February 2012, the Avocent Universal Management Gateway is a powerful, scalable 1U appliance capable of collecting real-time data from thousands of devices and sensors across facility and IT systems. The Avocent Universal Management Gateway efficiently and intelligently stores, processes, and translates the massive volumes of real-time data generated by these systems. This enables rapid and accurate problem identification, escalation to the appropriate personnel, and resolution. The Avocent Universal Management Gateway also provides remote access to and control of data center systems vital to the future of DCIM.
“More and more organizations are looking to eliminate the inefficiencies created when facilities and IT systems are managed separately,” explained David Cappuccio, vice president and head of research for Gartner’s infrastructure teams. “DCIM solutions that integrate facilities and IT systems into a single management platform will be essential for optimizing data center performance in the future.”.
Also being introduced is Avocent's DSView 4 software, the first data center infrastructure management software to use Avocent's Universal Management Gateway appliance to enable 24/7 centralized data center management. This hardware and software combination allows data center administrators to remotely access, monitor, and control relevant devices across various heterogeneous platforms in numerous sites. Avocent DSView 4 also offers new features, including Hyper-V support, FIPS 140-2 compliance, and the addition of an open architecture database that allows administrators to design custom reports and use third-party reporting systems.
