Available as a licensed feature on SmartNode VoIP products, PacketSmart Probe enables service providers to use an on-premises SmartNode device to remotely and proactively monitor subscriber and enterprise LAN WAN access link activity and performance.

The powerful combination of PacketSmart and SmartNode, coupled with BroadClouds-based analytics platforms, ensures greater business uptime for subscribers and reduces customer support costs for service providers.

“We are delighted that Patton will continue working with Broadsoft to provide a competitive advantage to our customers, the service providers,” said Don Lewis, Director of BroadCloud PacketSmart Services at BroadSoft. “For more than a decade, Patton has demonstrated its commitment to improving quality of service while reducing the costs of developing, operating, and managing networks. The inclusion of PacketSmart Probe in SmartNode furthers these efforts.”

Patton, which began interoperability testing with BroadSoft in 2006, presented this solution for BroadWorks SIP trunking at the BroadSoft Connections trade show in 2014.

Now with PacketSmart Probe incorporated into SmartNode VoIP solutions, Patton enables telecom operators to reduce the cost and complexity of on-premises hardware for subscriber delivery, monitoring, and troubleshooting, based on BroadSoft services.

The SmartNode eSBC now offers PacketSmart monitoring features combined with WAN access, media gateway, standardized SIP, edge router, and VoIP security features in a single Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) solution.

PacketSmart provides continuous, real-time monitoring of customer network services with proactive, automated alerts, enabling service providers to identify local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) issues that negatively impact VoIP service quality.

Unlike other solutions that require investment in a separate analytics system, BroadCloud PacketSmart analytics is designed as a cloud-based subscription, reducing the investment required to develop the service, as well as the associated operating and maintenance costs.

In related news, Patton recently announced its entry into the SDN vs VNF debate with a virtual eSBC for demonstrations and alpha testing.
