As AI systems become more sophisticated and data volumes continue to grow, businesses require storage solutions that can keep up with the complex demands of today's workloads.
High-capacity drives are critical for certain phases of the AI process, such as large language models (LLM), training and storing massive datasets, vector databases, and rapidly retrieving information for inference and fine-tuning. This enterprise-grade KIOXIA drive, designed for generative AI applications, boasts high capacity and a dual-port PCIe 5.0 interface for fault tolerance or connectivity with multiple computing systems.
These high-capacity QLC-based SSDs are suitable for deployment in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Through these cloud configurations, these high-capacity SSDs deliver training and inference data to AI server systems.
This new KIOXIA SSD complements the recently announced KIOXIA AiSAQ™ technology, which boosts Scalable Recall (RAG) performance by storing vector database elements on SSDs instead of the more expensive and limited DRAM. It also improves system and rack efficiency with higher storage density and lower power consumption per TB compared to lower-capacity SSDs.
Key features of the KIOXIA LC9 Series SSD include:
a dual-port 2.5-inch SSD form factor, 122.88 TB capacity, and 0.3 DWPD endurance (5 years).
It meets NVMe 2.0, NVMe-MI, and PCIe 5.0 specifications (up to 128 gigatransfers per second with single x4 and dual x2 Gen5 performance capabilities).
It features KIOXIA's 8th generation BiCS FLASH™ 2 TB QLC 3D Flash memory and CBA (CMOS Bonded to Array) technology, contributing to products with greater capacity, performance, and efficiency.
“AI workloads are expanding data storage capabilities, requiring higher capacities and faster access to the extensive datasets found in today’s data lakes, and KIOXIA is ready to deliver the necessary advanced technologies, such as the 8th generation BiCS FLASH™ 3D Flash memory with 2 Tb QLC, CBA and AiSAQ™,” commented Axel Störmann, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Integrated Memory and SSD Products at KIOXIA Europe GmbH.
"This new LC9 series NVMe SSD is an instrumental expansion of KIOXIA's products that will support the needs of AI system developers for high-capacity, high-performance, and energy-efficient storage for applications such as AI model training, inference, and augmented generation recovery at a larger scale."

Notes
*2.5 inch indicates the form factor of the SSD drive and not its physical size.
*Definition of capacity: KIOXIA Corporation defines one gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and one terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. However, a computer's operating system reports storage capacity using powers of 2, defining 1 GB = 2^30 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1 TB = 2^40 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, thus indicating less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various multimedia files) will vary depending on file size, format, configuration, software and operating system, and/or pre-installed software applications or multimedia content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
DWPD: Drive Write Per Day. One full drive write per day means the drive's total capacity can be written to and rewritten every day for five years (the product's stated warranty period). Actual results may vary due to system configuration, usage, and other factors.
