As the third generation of Toshiba's popular XG series, the XG5 SSDs feature the latest 3-bit-per-cell (triple-level cell) BiCS FLASH™ FLASH™ and utilize PCI EXPRESS® (PCIe®) Gen3 x4 channels and NVMe Revision 1.2.1 to deliver extremely high performance of up to 3000 MB/s sequential read and 2100 MB/s sequential write. Compared to 6Gbit/s SATA storage, the XG5 series is up to 5.4 times faster in sequential read performance and up to 3.8 times faster in sequential write performance with a maximum interface bandwidth of 32 GT/s. In addition, the XG5 feature set also offers an SLC cache with excellent performance to accelerate burst-type workloads, such as those commonly experienced on Windows® PCs, as well as reduced idle power consumption of more than 50% to less than 3mW, making these SSDs an excellent solution for high-performance mobile computing.
 
The XG5 Series SSDs will be available in three capacities: 256GB, 512GB, and 1024GB, all in a single M.2 2280 form factor. Self-encrypting drive (SED) models compliant with TCG Opal Version 2.01 will also be offered, making the XG5 Series well-suited for a wide range of applications, including performance-driven ultra-mobile PCs and security-intensive enterprise applications.
