The single-disk model in the MQ04 series offers 1 TB of data storage capacity in an ultra-compact 2.5-inch form factor that is only 7 mm high. The drive's 6 Gbit/s SATA interface [2] and 5,400 RPM rotational speed, combined with a 128 MiB buffer [3] and consistent seek performance, result in 34 percent higher internal transfer throughput than previous 1 TB models in the MQ01 series. The new model is also quieter and weighs less than previous generations.

"The Toshiba MQ04 1TB model is at the forefront of mobile client hard drive technology and value, delivering reliable capacity and performance without adding weight to laptops," said Noriaki Katakura, General Manager of Toshiba Electronics Europe.

Toshiba recently revealed that it was the fastest-growing vendor in hard drive space for 2016 [4] . The new MQ04 1TB model is further testament to Toshiba's commitment to meeting customer demand with drives that offer variety, reliability, and efficiency for every need. General shipping availability for the MQ04 1TB model begins today.

[1] Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes, and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2, so 1TB = 2⁴⁰ = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, and therefore displays less storage capacity. The available storage capacity (including examples of various multimedia files) will vary depending on the file size, format, configuration, software, and operating system, such as the Microsoft operating system and/or pre-installed software applications or multimedia content. Actual format capacity may vary.

[2] Read and write speeds may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size.

[3] One kibibyte (KiB) means 210, or 1,024 bytes, one mebibit (MiB) means 220, or 1,048,576 bytes, and one gibibit (GiB) means 230, or 1,073,741,824 bytes.
