The new Toshiba MG06 series offers a 25 percent increase in capacity compared to the previous generation, the MG05 series, and allows models to be offered with multiple capacity points to improve capacity replacement cycles for OEMs/ODMs, infrastructure builders, cloud solution providers (CSPs), and systems integrators.
In addition to increased capacity, the 10TB MG06 series boasts a higher maximum sustained transfer rate of 237MB/s compared to the previous MG05 series, as well as a 25 percent increase in MTTF, rated at 2.5 million hours. The drive provides a 6Gb/s SATA interface and operates at 7200 RPM. Furthermore, the MG06 HDD supports 512 Advanced Format (512e) emulation technology for compatibility with legacy applications and operating environments, or native 4K sector technology for optimal performance across all disks or hybrid storage platforms.
Noriaki Katakura, General Manager of Toshiba Electronics Europe for the HDD business unit, stated: "CSPs, server and storage providers, and IT professionals face opportunities and challenges related to the volume and value of digital data enterprises of all sizes." "With the new MG06 series of enterprise-grade HDDs offering greater value and performance, Toshiba is responding to the diverse needs of today's cloud and mission-critical applications."
Designed to support higher storage density, the MG06 Series HDD introduces Toshiba's 10 TB series, while also updating existing 6 TB and 8 TB capacities. Based on Toshiba's latest HDD architecture, the new models can save rack space to improve the operational efficiency of cloud-scale infrastructure. The MG06 Series is designed for mission-critical business server workloads and mid-line, nearline, and tier 2 storage systems, including servers supporting application workloads that benefit from high spindle capacity; capacity-optimized data center storage systems; and enterprise IT and data center servers supporting workloads of up to 550 TB of total bytes written and read per year. All models feature Toshiba's Persistent Write Cache technology for maximum performance and enterprise-grade data reliability. The models also support power mode management capabilities that conform to HDD industry standards.
