In combination with the new PVDF helical antenna from Siemens' Industry Automation division, the Sitrans LR250 transmitter can now be used to measure acids such as sulfuric and hydrochloric acid, bases, and other corrosive chemicals such as sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide. Level transmitters equipped with steel-surfaced antennas are unsuitable for these applications, typically requiring the use of expensive materials. The PVDF helical antenna offers a cost-effective solution to this problem. The materials used in the antenna comply with FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) regulations for use in the water treatment, food and beverage, and chemical industries.
The Sitrans LR250 is a compact, two-wire, 25 GHz pulsed radar level transmitter with measuring ranges up to 20 m. It is available with Hart, Profibus PA, or Foundation Fieldbus protocols. Thanks to the quick start wizard, it can be commissioned in minutes. Programming can also be performed using a handheld infrared programmer. In addition to comprehensive diagnostic functions according to Namur NE 43, the Sitrans LR250 boasts an 86% Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) for functional safety with SIL 2. This makes it an ideal transmitter for use in safety-critical systems.
The main application areas of Sitrans LR250 are liquid storage tanks, process tanks with agitator mechanisms, fuming liquids and media with low dielectric constant.
