Testing and measurement tasks are shifting from targeted testing to over-the-air (OTA) testing, particularly in 5G NR due to the increased frequency range. One challenge posed by OTA testing is maintaining the compact size of the test chamber while simultaneously offering a large quiet zone (QZ) or usable measurement zone across a wide frequency range. Rohde & Schwarz has developed the R&S ATS1800C to combine all these features and meet the current and future requirements of 5G NR OTA testing.
The R&S ATS1800C is a high-end, ready-to-use chamber with a small footprint of only 1.3 m². Its portable design makes it flexible and easily transportable between laboratories. The solution provides a large 30 cm quiet zone that meets the requirements for 3GPP 5G NR compliance testing. The R&S ATS1800C chamber has high shielding efficiency and is designed to provide an interference-free environment for continuous measurements of 5G antennas, modules, and devices.
A unique feature of the R&S ATS1800C is its state-of-the-art gold CATR reflector, which transforms the incoming spherical wavefront into a plane wave. Manufacturing the reflector requires processes with micrometer-level precision.
The R&S ATS1800C supports testing devices weighing up to 8 kg, making it the ideal choice for testing a range of active or passive DUTs, from small chip modules to tablets, laptops, and even small cells. Hardware triggering enables measurements during the continuous movement of a high-precision 3D positioner, which can reduce measurement time by a factor of 5 to 10.
