5G RedCap is an emerging standard for applications that require some of the advantages of 5G (high speed, ultra-low latency, and high reliability) but cannot justify the full cost of 5G. Furthermore, a complete 5G network infrastructure has not yet been deployed in many regions.
Mads Fischer, European sales director at SIMCom, comments: “RedCap is very attractive to customers looking for rapid deployment of IoT applications that meet 5G requirements, but who also need to consider cost. Our new range of RedCap SIM8230 modules enables system designers to get up and running quickly and easily.”

The SIM8230 modules adopt the LGA +LCC form factor with various interfaces, measuring 30 x 30 x 2.5 mm. The AT commands of the SIM8230 modules are compatible with devices in the SIM7600/8200/8260 series, minimizing costs for customers and shortening time to market. The SIM8230 modules offer speeds of up to 220 Mbps (DL)/100 Mbps (UL) for Sub-6G SA, or 200 Mbps (DL)/75 Mbps (UL) for LTE. The modules are available in different versions for use in various regions. Due to their high efficiency, security, and flexibility, the modules are suitable for various IoT and M2M applications, including indoor CPEs, MiFi, and industrial control.
