Distance-to-PIM technology helps turn the MW8208A into a complete troubleshooting tool that allows field technicians and engineers responsible for the deployment, installation and maintenance of wireless networks to quickly and accurately locate the source of passive intermodulation (PIM), whether it is in the base station antenna system or in the surrounding environment. With the MW8208A PIM Master, users can determine the distance and relative magnitude of all static PIM faults simultaneously, including those occurring in dirty connectors, corroded connectors, overtightened connectors, and connectors with microscopic arcing. The PIM Master can also accurately locate PIM outside the antenna system—the only testing solution capable of doing so.
The MW8208A generates two high-power tones in the transmit band of a base station and can measure 3rd, 5th, and 7th order intermodulation products in the receive band traveling over the same cable. Thanks to the GPS function built into Anritsu's handheld analyzers, users can save the measurement location.
Another advantage of the MW8208A is that it can perform 40W tests, while alternative methods only measure at 20W. Using 40W simulates the actual power that triggers the PIM, which might not activate in systems with only 20W. Furthermore, using twice the power allows the PIM Master to pinpoint faults caused by minor corrosion, heavy traffic, or changing weather conditions.
The MW8208A is designed to integrate Anritsu's S332E/S362E Site Master™ cable and antenna analyzers, MS2712E/MS2713E and MS272xC Spectrum Master™ handheld spectrum analyzers, MT8212E/MT8213E Cell Master™ handheld analyzers, and MT8221B/MT8222B BTS Master™ handheld analyzers.
The MW8208A is the newest member of the growing PIM Master family, which also includes the MW8209A for the E-GSM band and the MW8219A for the PCS/AWS bands.
