Among the improvements in the new IMDView software is its new and advanced, easy-to-use graphical user interface, which simplifies complex intermodulation distortion measurements and allows for a more detailed evaluation of it.

An internal RF combiner/switch option has also been introduced for VectorStar, offering intermodulation distortion measurements via a single connection without the need to rewire the measurement setup. This is an extremely useful capability as it reduces setup and measurement time and improves overall accuracy by minimizing errors from multiple calibrations and system adjustments.

IMDView provides a comprehensive suite of tools to give engineers greater confidence in their amplifier designs. Multiple channels and signals allow for simultaneous visualization of the intermodulation distortion sweep frequency and continuous-wave intermodulation distortion performance under varying operating conditions. IMDView also features a unique ability to modify key parameters and monitor the effects, enabling engineers to determine optimal performance capabilities without switching configuration panels to view the results. The software also tracks the frequency bands of interest, as well as the required power levels for both tones. During power calibration, the software automatically switches the paths to deliver calibrated tones to the input of the test device.

Thanks to these enhancements, VectorStar is the only vector network analysis platform that can offer engineers three different intermodulation distortion settings and the ability to upgrade to any of the configurations. IMDView is a software option that simplifies the configuration of displayed signals based on intermodulation distortion parameters such as TOI, IM products, and power calibrations. The addition of an internal second source option simplifies the creation of a second source and reduces setup time by eliminating the need to locate the appropriate source. The aforementioned internal RF combiner/switch option offers the ability to toggle between S-parameter and intermodulation distortion measurements without reconnection. In addition to saving time, it improves overall accuracy by eliminating multiple calibrations and concatenation errors.

The VectorStar receiver, based on NLTL technology, provides exceptional linearity and maintains very low base noise, even at millimeter-wave frequencies. VectorStar offers a receiver IP3 rating within the +35 dBm range and excellent performance, even for narrow pitch variations. VectorStar also offers the fastest sweep speed in its class for more accurate intermodulation distortion measurements.

broadband vector network analysis solution
can be used with the VectorStar ME7838x broadband system to create an accurate and easy-to-configure solution for millimeter-wave intermodulation distortion (IMD) measurement, greatly reducing setup and calibration time. It offers a calibrated 1 mm test port for easy conversion to wafer measurements or to waveguide ports for waveguide test devices. IMDView automatically adjusts frequencies and power levels to configure the 3743A millimeter-wave modules for dual-tone operation and the receiver for different IMD responses. The software also provides internal frequency and power controls during required IMD power calibrations, delivering calibrated power to the 1 mm, coplanar waveguide input port of the test device.
