Addressing the Standards Governing Automotive Ethernet
Next-generation ADAS systems require high-resolution camera and radar systems. This necessitates increased data rates and high-bandwidth networks. Automotive Ethernet enables faster data communication to meet the demands of today's vehicles and the connected vehicles of the future. Keysight has just released three new software expansions for 1G and multi-gigabit data rates that enable Tier 1 chipset manufacturers and other automotive suppliers to quickly validate and debug automotive Ethernet devices, ensuring faster time to market and achieving IEEE and OPEN Alliance compliance. However, higher speeds can lead to data loss, interference, and an increased risk of packet loss or corrupted data.
To address this growing challenge, Keysight has developed a software solution for channel and transmission testing in automotive Ethernet compliant with IEEE 802.3ch 2.5/5/10Gbps to easily and quickly test, debug, and characterize complex automotive multigigabit Ethernet designs.
Keysight's automotive Ethernet solutions provide the hardware, software, cables, and accessories necessary for compliance testing. Built with versatile, functional hardware, they deliver reliable and repeatable measurement results thanks to the popular Keysight Infiniium oscilloscope families: theUXR Real-Time Series and MXR Real-Time Series, as well as the Keysight ENA E5080B Vector Network Analyzer, the Keysight PXI Vector Network Analyzers, and the Keysight USB Streamline Series Vector Network Analyzers. These instruments are also essential tools in the lab for verifying and validating designs beyond automotive Ethernet.
The new Keysight Automotive Ethernet software offers the following key features:
- Greater confidence that the device meets any standard: 6 standards for Transmitter, 2 standards for Receiver and 6 for the Link segment.
- It includes all relevant hardware, software, and accessories in a single model reference, saving time and money with a single compliance application to buy and use.
- Create a test plan and automatically configure the instrumentation for each measurement, applying the limit lines.
- Automated reports in a complete HTML or PDF format with margin analysis.
- Automated configurations that ensure repeatability and make it easier for groups to conduct trials without needing to become experts in the required procedures.
- Accurate and repeatable results with Keysight instrumentation and with specific measuring tools and adapter cards for automotive Ethernet.
- It allows protocol decoding for the 1000BASE-T1 physical layer, which quickly debugs automotive Ethernet protocol problems, getting to the root of the problem, whether it be timing or signal integrity.
“At Keysight, we recognize the critical need to address the growing market demand for high-speed digital interfaces within the automotive market,” said Thomas Goetzl, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Automotive and Energy Solutions business unit. “The new solutions announced here represent yet another way Keysight is supporting the evolution and standardization of technologies for our automotive customers.”
For example, prior to its launch, the solution was successfully verified on Broadcom's BCM8989x device, the automotive industry's first IEEE 802.3ch multigigabit PHY device. Furthermore, MegaChips Corporation usedtransmitter. compliance software to validate its design
"IEEE 802.3ch is an important data rate for our customers and for us; we needed a way to validate the specification's interpretations in our designs," said Taiji Kondo, general manager of MegaChips HIGHSPEED WIRED COMMUNICATION DIV. Analog DEV. DEPT. "Keysight's automotive Ethernet transmitter software allows us to supply our customers with new chipsets with confidence."
