Televes meterIt can even function as a standalone modem. According to Steve Strong, Director of Operations at Televes USA, “the new H30D3 is the ideal solution for small and medium-sized installations, offering the perfect balance between performance and price, with outstanding features that can be accessed remotely.”.

At SCTE Cable-Tec, Televés will also present the dual HDMI/Component version of its Clear QAM encoders. These devices encode two video inputs of up to 1080p into a single RF channel and Annex A or B up to 1024 QAM, across an extended frequency range of 5 to 1002 MHz. All versions encode both MPEG-2 and H.264 and incorporate Civolution's NexGuard forensic watermarking technology. This feature prevents piracy by embedding hidden digital information into the video signal that identifies its owners. The Clear QAM encoders share a format with the T.0X product family, allowing them to be integrated into existing distribution headends.

Steve Strong stated: “Our professional range of Clear QAM encoders allows you to integrate services with the assurance that they are protected by Civolution’s evolved invisible watermarking technology, delivering the video quality and spectrum management excellence you expect from today’s best equipment.”

What is watermarking?

Digital watermarking is a mark embedded within image data. It is typically used to identify ownership and copyright of the image. This process hides digital information to verify the authenticity and integrity of the image or to indicate the identity of its owners. It is a widely used technique for identifying copyright infringements and for authenticating banknotes. Like traditional watermarks, digital watermarks are imperceptible to the naked eye and are detected using techniques such as algorithms. It is a passive protection tool that provides data but in no way degrades or restricts access to the image.

In the case of Televés set-top boxes, the watermarking technique is used to embed the Dish Network receiver's serial number in the image. This number is invisible to the human eye but is recorded as a digital watermark if the image is recorded or retransmitted. Thus, if the signal is published without authorization, it can be traced back to the offending receiver.
