Cable attenuation, for example, can cause considerable power loss, especially in the microwave range. To compensate for this loss, a sufficiently high signal generator output power is required. The new R&S SMF-B32 and R&S SMF-B34 options ensure this power by increasing the output power of the R&S SMF100A by up to 8 dB (+23 dBm at 20 GHz, +14 dBm at 40 GHz). Thanks to these new options, it is possible to measure passive and active components at very high frequencies without the need for an external amplifier.
The R&S SMF-B22 option also sets new standards for single-sideband phase noise. Users will benefit when performing measurements on multiplexers and Doppler radar systems, for example. The microwave generator's base unit already exhibits exceptional phase noise characteristics. Equipped with the new option, performance is further improved, even with signals very close to the carrier frequency. For example, at a carrier frequency of 10 GHz and an offset of 10 Hz, the improvement is 8 dB.
