This provides a single training solution for a large number of devices that can be integrated into almost any IoT device or platform, thus eliminating the need to customize pre-loaded provisioning configurations for each IoT deployment.
Intel SDO also leverages Intel's proprietary IoT identity preservation solution, Intel® Enhanced Privacy ID (Intel® EPID), which anonymously authenticates the device and establishes an encrypted communication tunnel, preventing hackers from tracking the device from the factory to its owners. Intel® EPID establishes a best-practice identity model for IoT device integration and is a proven method with over 2.7 billion keys distributed across MCU processors from both Intel and other companies since 2008.

Intel has expanded the availability of Intel SDO across the IoT ecosystem.
Other silicon vendors, such as Infineon, Microchip, and Cypress Semiconductor, will incorporate the EPID identity capability into their hardware. Furthermore, device management software vendors and cloud service platforms, including Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Intel's Wind River® Helix™ Device Cloud, plan to offer integration, supporting Intel SDO's zero-touch model.
Intel SDO is currently integrated into Wind River Helix Device Cloud, a device lifecycle management platform that enables IoT devices to securely connect, monitor, manage, and service other devices. With the integration of Intel SDO, the latest version of Wind River Device Cloud includes zero-touch onboarding designed to reduce the risk of device security attacks, ensure privacy, and offer automation to significantly reduce installation and onboarding time to just seconds (among other new features and functions).
Weatherford, a leading oil and gas services company, participated in the Intel SDO pilot program. The company wanted to extract data from existing controllers and deploy new wireless sensors via a cloud gateway to enhance its oil and gas insights. By adopting Intel SDO and Wind River's Device Cloud, Weatherford created a secure and scalable ecosystem for oilfields, from hands-free IoT integration to continuous gateway management. Weatherford estimates the market size for managed devices could reach 290,000 wells, representing 870,000 data point sensors and approximately 10,000 IoT gateways globally.
