The truth is that aircraft are built to last for decades, but racing cars change every season, and as electronics are installed in increasingly smaller spaces, the connectors used in motorsports must also have a small design.
"The SOURIAU 8STA series, designed for motorsports, is based on MIL-DTL-38999, a recognized standard for aerospace connectors," says Samuel Tournier, 8STA Product Manager. Until recently, the 8STA was available in seven housing sizes and from five to 68 26-gauge contacts. The constant pursuit of performance in the world of motorsports, and especially in Formula 1 racing, has driven engineers to optimize every possible parameter. With the 8STA 01, SOURIAU addresses the need for an ultra-compact housing equipped with three 26-gauge contacts.
The bayonet locking mechanism withstands vibrations from 10 to 2000 Hz and has an impact resistance of 147 m/s². All connectors have an IP67 protection rating, withstand mechanical shock according to EIA-364-27, endure more than 500 connection cycles, and have an operating temperature range of -55°C to +175°C. The connector's aluminum body is zinc-nickel plated for durability in harsh environments. Furthermore, the 8STA 01 housing is 20% smaller than the 02 housing.

The oval-flanged receptacles fit together snugly, and the threaded connection version, which prevents the locking nut from loosening, takes up less space and is quicker to connect. Regarding the cables, the plug is very small and has an integrated rear connector, making it a complete connector and eliminating the need for a separate rear connector.

The female plug and extension piece allow for the creation of wiring interconnection systems to connect electronic control boxes to test benches, programming benches, or service bays and garages. Color-coded rings on the plugs and receptacles ensure quick and error-free, correct connections. Finally, the 8STA 01 plugs and receptacles feature a protective cover. Suitable for motorsports and other applications.
