All of this is tailored to the needs of inverter designs in electric/hybrid vehicles. The improved, tightly sealed contact connector (i.e., with high resistance to shock and vibration) allows for tighter tolerances in systems while avoiding precise mating procedures that can add cost and compromise performance.
The new geometry of the IDC female and PCB male connectors requires a stronger mating force to achieve the improved locking mechanism. A secondary benefit of the design is that the user receives tactile and audible confirmation that the connection is secure. The risk of contact damage during plugging is also eliminated thanks to additional guides and wider locking latches. A low-cost tool is available for releasing the connector. Based on the new, secure-locking, compact, and reliable 50-pin SMC connectors, flat cable assemblies can be created.
