This new connector is rugged and suitable for use in smartphones, tablets, industrial automation, robotics, medical devices, and chargers. Featuring one row of through-hole contacts and one row of SMD contacts, this is TE's first hybrid connector to join RS's USB-C range.
The technology used in USB-C connectors is slightly different from others; it's fully reversible, data transfer is much faster, and it's backward compatible with older protocols like VGA and USB-A. Major laptop and mobile phone manufacturers have already begun announcing their plans regarding USB-C; Apple's latest MacBook®, for example, will only use one external USB-C connector, in addition to a headphone jack.
RS will continue to expand the USB-C range by introducing new connectors, cables, and adapters for various standards such as VGA and USB-A, used by older devices with USB 2.0, USB 3.0/3.1, and the Lightning connector, used in the latest generation of Apple mobile phones and tablets.
