Compared to the previous EP generation, EP II has significantly increased nominal capacities: with up to 600 Vac and 10 A current, the interconnection system can be used for household appliances and electrical equipment, as well as other applications with higher voltage requirements. Since the new housings are compatible with existing EP post heads, they can be used seamlessly as replacements without requiring any PCB modifications. The new design features of the housing and terminal offer many additional advantages, specifically enabling high-quality, consistent, and durable interconnection while also making handling simpler and more ergonomic.

EP II single-row plug housings with a 0.156” (3.96 mm pitch) centerline are available in 2 to 12 positions for terminating discrete 16- to 22 AWG wire. They consist of a housing, push-in receptacle terminal, and the newly incorporated 12-position separable contact retention devices that provide Terminal Position Assurance (TPA). The inserted TPA retention devices also prevent contacts from retracting in applications with random vibrations.

power connector1A key aspect of the new connector design was to offer maximum ergonomics combined with features that provide multiple levels of feedback to the worker during assembly and mating. One such feature is the polarization tabs, which prevent accidental misalignment of the housing and head. An active locking mechanism in the housing stabilizes the dovetail joint between the head and housing when both halves of the connector are fully mated. This locking mechanism provides the worker with tangible and audible feedback, as well as increasing the vibration resistance of the interconnect.
