Good handling properties are essential for these types of compact connectors to achieve correct and reliable interconnection during assembly. Therefore, the housings and contacts (terminals) of the EP 2.5 have been designed to assist workshop workers in their manual tasks. The low insertion force terminals, for example, have an asymmetrical shape, meaning they can only be inserted into the housing cavity correctly. This type of tactile feedback works even under adverse workshop conditions with noise and distractions.
The same principle applies to the polarization tabs on the housing and headers, which prevent misalignment of the posts and many problems caused by improperly splicing the connector halves together. A positive locking lever on the outside of the plug housing engages with a corresponding piece on the new headers during mating to establish a mechanical lock with an audible click, confirming that the connector halves are fully engaged.
EP 2.5 connectors are UL listed. They can be used in operating temperatures between -55°C and 105°C. The housings are made of UL 94V-0 rated plastic and are available in various colors upon request. The pin contacts are made of tinned phosphor bronze. To prevent fretting corrosion and filament formation, the contacts are lubricated.
