The 6284 series connectors feature staggered dual contacts, resulting in minimal insertion force and simplifying FFC/FPC cable positioning and insertion. However, this design does not compromise mating security: while the connectors require 25% less force than other LIF connector types, the pull-out force is approximately twice that required by other designs.
With a profile of only 1.5 mm, the 6284 connectors are available in 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 26, 30, 40, 50, 55, and 60-way configurations – this can be increased for new projects. The operating temperature range is -40 to 85 °C, but this can be increased to 105 °C to meet automotive requirements.
According to Andy Kotas, marketing director of AVX/Kyocera Elco Connectors: “The new 6284 series LIF FFC/FPC connector is primarily intended for price-sensitive applications such as white-label products, including audio, video, recording devices, set-top boxes, and satellite receivers. However, its simple mating also makes it suitable for medical applications, industrial testing, and measurement equipment.”
Radical miniaturization in PCB termination technology
HARTING is expanding its range of PCB terminals and PCB connectors, effectively supporting the trend towards modularization and miniaturization in industrial electronics. Product developers have maximum design freedom at their disposal.
