The robust 5A connectors provide a reliable board-to-board connection for end-to-board mating, also known as butt mating, optimizing the spacing between LEDs for maximum optical performance. The 9159 LED connector series features a top sliding receptacle that allows for quick and easy on-site repair after lighting installation. The connectors also include a shorting socket and a locking mechanism that ensures secure attachment and meets the demands of the harsh environments required by solid-state lighting systems. Wire-to-board connectors with a standard receptacle for power and signal delivery are also available.
On the occasion of this launch, Tom Anderson, Product Manager at AVX, stated: “AVX is a unique connector company developing new board-to-board connectors specifically designed for the solid-state lighting market.” He also stated: “Our LED connectors are 50% smaller than those currently on the market and offer increased functionality and performance.”
The two-piece wire-to-board connector is typically surface-mounted on the top of the circuit board, allowing it to be directly attached to a heatsink. With a pitch of 3.0 mm, a height of 3.0 mm, and a width of 5.0 mm, these connectors, when assembled, provide minimal spacing between LEDs. Manufactured in various configurations (2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 positions), the 9159 5A series operates at a nominal voltage of 125 VAC and a temperature range of -55 to 125 °C.
Providing a simple and reliable termination for integrated circuits in LED lighting applications, the 9159 series connectors are tested to industrial standards for shock, vibration, and thermal cycling according to IEC specifications to ensure they withstand harsh environments. Ideal for robust applications such as automotive lighting systems, the 9159 series connectors are also suitable for sand sports marking strips, display cases, cabinet lighting, fluorescent tube replacements, and architectural lighting used for building embellishment or interior illumination.
These connectors are supplied in standard ribbon and coiled versions and are RoHS compliant.
