The powerful combination of extreme miniaturization and innovative design makes them ideal for extremely compact and demanding applications. Furthermore, their application range is very broad, from sensor technology, medical instruments, and mobile communications to automotive electronics, automation engineering, measurement, test equipment, and building automation. New antimagnetic versions (with one and two rows) are now available for medical applications.
Despite their extremely compact construction, MicroStac products are capable of conducting high currents. The contacts are formed by precision stamping. As a result, the contacts offer a large cross-section for low ohmic resistance, while simultaneously providing a large radiating surface capable of carrying higher currents than similar competitor products. At an ambient temperature of 20°C and with current supplied to all contacts, MicroStac connectors can transfer 2.7 A per contact (9-pin version according to IEC 60512, test 5b).
MicroStac connectors are available with 6, 9, 10, 12, and 14 pins (all single-row), as well as 50 and 54 pins (both double-row). Depending on the connector, board spacing can range from 3.0 mm to 5–6.5 mm. Despite their miniaturization, the new connectors offer excellent connection tolerances, with longitudinal and transverse axis misalignment tolerances of ±0.7 mm. The permissible tilt tolerance is ±4 degrees.
SMT terminals and MicroStac's unique design enable cost-effective and automated assembly. The stability of the miniature connector is enhanced by the tilt-proof contact principle, with contacts positioned on both sides of the board. Furthermore, with their corresponding characteristics of minimal weight (only 0.18g for the 6-pin design), coplanarity < 0.1mm, and integrated suction areas in the insulating structure for pick-and-place assembly, MicroStac components are perfectly suited for high-speed manufacturing.
MicroStac connectors are characterized by their high-temperature-resistant insulating structure and precise coplanarity to ensure a safe soldering experience. The black insulating structure facilitates visual identification during automated assembly, and when supplied in packaging with antistatic tape and reel, the connectors are protected and ready for automated assembly.
