By focusing on redundancy, RED25 switches are ideal for the automotive, manufacturing, and machine building industries. These sectors typically have automation systems that are part of their network infrastructure. Most system failures occur within the network, leading to service interruptions. RED25's redundancy technology can mitigate the impact of such failures, minimizing the risk of downtime while increasing productivity by ensuring continuous communication and keeping plants running smoothly.

In addition to supporting various redundancy technologies, RED25 switches feature a comprehensive suite of built-in security functions that provide robust protection against network security attacks or operational errors. They can also be customized to meet specific port requirements or environmental factors, such as temperature range.

“The RED25 switch family offers flexibility and a future-proof network design. The goal is to provide industrial network engineers, system integrators, and machine builders with a cost-effective, entry-level device,” commented Juergen Schmid, Executive Director of Products. “This makes the RED25 the ideal choice for applications requiring a basic redundancy switch specifically designed to operate in harsh environments.”.

RED25 delivers maximum productivity and network uptime thanks to uninterrupted data communication based on Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) and High Availability Redundancy (HSR). Additional redundancy technologies, such as Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), Device Level Ring (DLR), and Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP), allow the switches to connect to existing networks. The switches are also designed to withstand high ambient temperatures and meet specific time synchronization requirements.

Based on the Hirschmann Operating System (HiOS) software, the RED25 supports various redundancy technologies while offering a comprehensive suite of security features. The RED25 switch is available in two- or four-port versions:
• Four Fast Ethernet (FE) TX ports
• Two FE TX ports, plus two FE SFP (small form-factor pluggable) ports.
