Dell EMC and VMware's integrated NFV solution simplifies and accelerates NFV development
Dell EMC and VMware have announced that they have integrated and validated Dell EMC cloud infrastructure hardware and the VMware vCloud NFV platform for OpenStack with the goal of reducing development time and helping to lower the overall costs of network functions virtualization (NFV) for communications service providers.
NFV can help communications service providers (CSPs) and mobile operators capitalize on new market opportunities more quickly, flexibly, and efficiently while reducing costs and preparing for 5G. The Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle for VMware will make it easier for CSPs to build their own operational clusters and design their initial products for end users. The validated solution minimizes adoption time and significantly reduces the time required to enable service.
This solution addresses the need for virtualized infrastructure while offering a ready-to-use product that can be customized to meet specific development requirements. It leverages industry-leading software and hardware, and open architectures from Dell EMC and VMware, providing a robust and integrated foundation for an NFV environment. With this foundation, a uniform build process, and a broad ecosystem of technologies from certified partners, CSPs can develop a flexible NFV environment that keeps pace with the evolving communications market.
The Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle for VMware is an integrated hardware and software solution. It includes open, standards-compliant Dell EMC cloud infrastructure hardware powered by Intel Xeon processors and the VMware vCloud NFV platform with either VMware vSAN or Dell EMC ScaleIO. Customers will need to choose between deploying the bundle with VMware Integrated OpenStack Carrier Edition or VMware vCloud Director as the virtual infrastructure manager.
VMware vCloud NFV is a fully integrated, modular, ETSI-compliant NFV platform. The vCloud NFV platform combines an operator-ready Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI) with Day 2 operations management and service assurance capabilities to drive successful NFV operations and development. VMware Ready for NFV gives CPSs the confidence of having certified virtual network functions from leading vendors to seamlessly and effectively develop, work, and operate with VMware vCloud NFV. To date, more than 40 partners have achieved vCloud NFV certification.
The Dell EMC Ready Service Provider portfolio comprises a set of proven and validated solutions specifically designed for service provider applications and environments. It is designed to streamline revenue-generating and production environments. The portfolio includes Ready Nodes consisting of individual Dell EMC platforms, typical PowerEdge servers based on Intel Xeon processors and equipped with ecosystem partner software, and Ready Bundles with multiple Dell EMC platforms (typically networking, storage, and server components) and ecosystem partner software.
