Designed for critical infrastructure environments, the WR31 is targeted at sectors that manage a large number of remote assets installed in challenging environments where on-site visits are infrequent or impractical. Furthermore, by supporting global HSPA+ and 4G LTE networks, the WR31 offers customers the flexibility to upgrade their router deployment as wireless networking requirements evolve.
The most valuable feature of the WR31 is Digi's license-free routing and security software, essential for high-reliability and high-security applications in utility and industrial markets. The WR31 is ideal for SCADA, telemetry, and other network operations equipment. It is designed for installation in water and electric utilities, state and municipal transportation agencies, oil and gas production and distribution facilities, and automated manufacturing companies.
The WR31 is available in multiple variants to give companies the ability to take advantage of increasingly available and affordable cellular connectivity, by offering selectable 3G/4G LTE software to choose the best network and the best telecom company for their needs.
For international deployments, the WR31 is available in global LTE with an alternative HSPA+ or global HSPA+ versions.
As a result, the Digi TransPort WR31 easily and reliably connects a wide variety of geographically distributed devices so companies can quickly scale their M2M deployments without worrying about which telecom company and network type are best for each location.
With a reinforced aluminum housing and DIN rail mounting format, the WR31 is designed for use in cabinets, weatherproof enclosures, and substation sheds. The product meets Class 1/Division 2 and ATEX specifications for hazardous environments and supports input/output (I/O) for local sensing and alarm applications.
Users deploying the WR31 have three levels of support to keep their devices online. Digi Remote Manager (SM) provides a centralized portal for bulk device configuration and reporting of potential issues. Digi's security software supports redundancy features such as Digi's proprietary VRRP+ (Virtual Routing Redundancy Protocol) and proprietary SureLink™ connection persistence software. Finally, the WR31 supports dual SIMs to provide continuous service through failover from one cellular provider to another, which is essential for applications requiring continuous network connectivity and that must meet service-level agreements (SLAs).
"The Digi TransPort WR31 was created specifically for network engineers in the field," said Joel Young, chief technology officer at Digi International. "They no longer have to settle for a vendor who has tried to cram 3G into an outdated industrial product; they can have an advanced 4G LTE router plus Digi's signature ability to deliver serial, IP, and I/O connectivity."
