routervpnfirewall-wThe Stratix 5900 Services Router expands the portfolio of industrial products jointly developed by Rockwell Automation and Cisco, helping manufacturers build a unified and secure environment from the enterprise to the end devices in an industrial automation control system. With VPN and firewall capabilities, the router restricts and regulates communication to ensure a secure perimeter and that information crossing that boundary is not tampered with or interrupted. VPNs can also create a secure tunnel for server-machine communications to help protect cell/area zones from other machines in the facility. Firewall capabilities can monitor and block incoming or outgoing traffic that violates established firewall policies. When combined with VPN and firewall, a more robust and secure network is created.

The router also enables manufacturing plants to connect and communicate with remote locations and substations. For example, a remote machine—whether 100 meters or 1,000 kilometers away—can be connected to another located in a production plant using the service router. This is a common application in the oil and gas and wastewater industries, where equipment dispersed over long distances needs to communicate with another to operate a common process.
The rugged Stratix 5900 service router runs on Cisco IOS and includes one wide area network (WAN) port and four Fast Ethernet ports. The hardware includes embedded features such as Network Address Translation (NAT), NBAR protocol filtering, Access Control Lists (ACLs), and Quality of Service (QoS) for prioritization. Its shock and vibration resistance has been enhanced, it comes with a DIN rail mount, and it operates in a temperature range of -25°C to 60°C, making it suitable for industrial applications.
The Stratix 5900 service router is now available and complements the full range of Stratix switches and the Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley ControlLogix EtherNet/IP secure communication module (1756-EN2TSC).
