The F/FTP cable has been reduced to a diameter of 6.9 mm, a 19.7% reduction in cross-sectional area, and the U/FTP cable has been reduced to 6.7 mm, a 14.5% reduction. The reduction in cable size and weight allows for the installation of more cable within a given size of containment system.
Do not confuse the design of this cable with that used for smaller conductors to achieve a reduced diameter. This cable is independently tested, complies with ISO 110801 2nd edition: 2002, and is suitable for installations up to 90 meters.
Excel's Category 6A (Augmented Category 6) cables and connectors take the performance capabilities of copper infrastructure to new levels. The cable is designed to exceed the component requirements set by ISO/IEC, CENELEC, and TIA for Category 6A/Augmented Category 6, delivering Class EA/Augmented Category 6 link performance over distances of up to 90 meters, supporting applications such as 10GBASE-T or 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
Each cable consists of two groups of two pairs wrapped in a durable, high-quality aluminum/polyester foil with an S-shaped configuration, providing a shield for each pair. The S-shaped configuration ensures pair separation, guaranteeing performance. These pairs are also wrapped in an additional overall foil shield. Using two groups of two pairs has reduced the cable's diameter and weight. The reduction in cable diameter has decreased the cross-sectional area by 19.7%. This design change was implemented to benefit both the installer and the end user directly and indirectly. By reducing size and weight, the cable occupies less space in containment systems, which in turn improves airflow in underground installations. The reduced weight also allows for lighter containment systems and simplifies cable handling. Furthermore, smaller diameter cables require less packaging to dispose of. Individual pairs are arranged in varying twist lengths to ensure optimal performance.
Excel's Category 6A cables are sheathed in a flame-retardant, halogen-free (LSNH) compound that meets the fire resistance standards defined in IEC 60332-1 and the smoke emission standards IEC 61034. Each cable is supplied on 500-meter plywood drums and includes an identification plate indicating the specification, part number, and sequential metric markings from 500 to 1 meter on each drum to reduce waste.
Typical applications: 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet; 10GBASE-T 10 Gigabit Ethernet; 1.2/2.4Gbps ATM; analog and digital video; IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE); IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+).
