Casbar

What does the agreement reached between Casbar and R&M consist of, and what were the motivations behind it?

José Manuel Fernández and José Luis Gil: Casbar is currently positioned in the market as a company that provides its clients with complete solutions. We always try to close the loop to facilitate a turnkey service. That is our objective: in addition to manufacturing fiber optic enclosures for several years now (High-Density Cabinets, Termination Boxes, Distribution Trays), in 2008 we added the Easy Up solution, a pre-installation for FTTX deployment.

Consequently, we already have the deployment and all the necessary enclosures. To offer a complete solution to telephone operators, we also need the cable and the final fiber optic connection terminations. That's where we turn to Reichle & De-Massari (R&M), a partner with a renowned reputation in the fiber optic market and with whom we have enjoyed a privileged, productive, and beneficial relationship for years thanks to our collaboration on various projects both nationally and internationally.

Does this initiative mark a new technological era for Casbar? What will its market projection be?

José Manuel Fernández and José Luis Gil: Well, it's true that this is a new phase. However, more than a change, it represents a reinforcement of the strategic direction. It would seem that Casbar is moving forward confidently, responding to new technologies and market needs.

These innovations stem from the trust our customers place in us, from our commitment to providing them with comprehensive service. They are specialists in developing highly sensitive electronic equipment and systems, as perfect as they are vulnerable to their environment, and they entrust them to us for safekeeping within our enclosures.

Clearly, launching Easy up is a strategic option that allows us to expand our scope of action and we hope that it will translate into a commercial response with the acquisition of new clients.

In FTTH deployments, what are the main difficulties, both technical and investment-related, and what solution is Casbar launching?

José Manuel Fernández and José Luis Gil: The future of telecommunications networks inevitably lies in fiber optics, given the quality of service it provides to users, its technological simplicity, ease of maintenance, and the vast possibilities it offers for developing new products and services. However, deploying fiber optics, from the primary network to the subscriber, currently requires significant investment from operators, considering that the return on investment is long-term.

Easy Up uses a technology that prioritizes efficiency. This phased deployment (indirect from the node to the subscriber) allows the operator to balance investment and amortization; in other words, it allows them to plan how much to invest now to know when they will receive a return on that investment.

Easy Up consists of four basic elements: a special vertical tube with microtubes to house the optical fiber, a subscriber cable locator, an individual brancher, and a connector box.

When the subscriber subscribes to the fiber optic service, the installers will only have to use the locator, sectioning the tube, crimping the fiber patch cord to the guide cable so that the optical fiber slides to the subscriber's connection box and protecting said cable with the individual branch.
What advantages does Easy Up offer?
José Manuel Fernández and José Luis Gil: Similarly, their advantages are four:

- We would point out first of all that it is a universal solution, since it adapts to the network structure of any operator, both national and international.

- We reiterate the financial aspect, but it is a defining characteristic of this solution compared to current ones. It optimizes investment (since it allows selective access for each subscriber and spreads costs over two phases: pre-installation and installation).

- It reduces risks, not only financial but also technical, because it avoids "dead fibers" within the cable (a problem that none of the current solutions manage to solve) and does not require skilled labor

Finally, it's based on a standard cable that offers easy and clean segregation (both indoors and outdoors). The tools are easy to handle, allowing for simple and easy subscriber location, and it's compatible with any splicing and connector technology. Therefore, its installation doesn't require specially skilled labor.

What are the benefits for the end user of an Easy Up installation?

José Manuel Fernández and José Luis Gil: The first, although less obvious, is that, being an efficient solution that reduces financial risk, it aims to accelerate the introduction and availability to the end consumer of the advantages of fiber optics.

This benefit ends up being the most important.

On the other hand, since it is an individual segregation, any failure in a subscriber's line only affects him; it will not cause service failures for the other subscribers in the same building.

Similarly, individual cable segregation allows for easy expansion of a subscriber's line capacity by the installation technician, who can simply insert a new optical fiber into the existing individual cable. In extreme situations, and depending on the operator's infrastructure, each individual cable can accommodate multiple optical fibers from the branch point to the customer's home.

How are installation expansions and repairs carried out with the Easy Up system in case of possible failures?

José Manuel Fernández and José Luis Gil: Everything is based on the individual cable. Each replacement, repair, or expansion required does not affect the rest of the infrastructure or subscribers.
Reichle & De-Massari (R&M)

What are the main aspects of the recent agreement between R&M and Casbar?

David López: The agreement signed with Casbar is the result of close collaboration between both companies in the development of an FTTH solution in the last mile.

Casbar is a high-quality company with extensive experience in the development and production of outdoor cabinets, wall boxes, etc., and R&M has over forty years of experience in manufacturing fiber optic systems and solutions for the telecommunications sector, including national and international clients as well as regional and urban network operators (city carriers).

Thanks to a positive collaboration on other projects between R&M and Casbar, as a highly prestigious partner recognized in the Spanish and international market, the agreement was signed at the end of 2008 to jointly develop a tailored and complete FTTH solution for the last mile deployment that allows unlimited data and voice communication as well as multimedia applications in the home or home offices.

R&M provides the high-transmission technology, with a tailor-made solution of maximum reliability.

The deployment of fiber optic networks in Spain is at a crucial juncture. What does the solution resulting from this agreement mean in this regard?

David López: In technological terms, the solution resulting from this agreement provides a solution fully adapted to the Spanish market, allowing for installation in any existing or new infrastructure. Furthermore, it offers high added value by featuring a versatile, future-proof enclosure installed with high-quality, reliable, and easy-to-maintain passive fiber optic technology.

From an economic standpoint for operators, this innovative solution represents a reduction in maintenance costs and a return on investment in the short and medium term.

From the perspective of R&M's renowned technological expertise in fiber optic networks, what are the greatest difficulties in undertaking FTTH deployment, and where do they occur?

David López: The challenges in FTTH deployments are numerous and varied, and are conditioned by the existing infrastructure – that is, whether it's a new or old building, and whether it has existing installations that need to be adapted to the new technology, etc. We, as technology experts in fiber optics, and Casbar, as leaders in high-density cabinet and termination box solutions, have solved most of the problems associated with FTTH deployments by developing this innovative solution that can be easily adapted to current market infrastructures.

What types of R&M products are part of this new system?

David López: More than specific products, what R&M brings to this collaboration is all its experience and innovation in the area of connectivity systems. In general, R&M products are characterized by their modularity, cutting-edge technology, maximum reliability, and high quality. The system therefore benefits from all the expertise in FTTx product development that we have been able to contribute from our operations in Switzerland and Spain to this fast, secure, and easy-to-install solution.

Generally speaking, modifications, expansions, and repairs to facilities are inevitable. What new features does R&M offer in this regard with the Easy Up solution?

David López: This solution is designed to be 'future-proof,' not only because its technology surpasses current standards, but also because, like all R&M technology systems, it undergoes rigorous quality and process controls in the manufacturing of each of its connectivity components, ensuring a long, fault-free lifespan. These factors, combined with R&M's warranty program, guarantee a return on investment and facilitate any future expansion or modification of the infrastructure, both technologically and economically. The test results conducted in R&M's laboratories in Switzerland underscore this point.

Furthermore, Easy Up has been developed specifically for quick and easy network expansion, and this also applies to modifications to the installation or repairs of the same.
