Together with the existing Spitfire, Lightning, and Magnum series optoelectronic interfaces, Protokraft offers a complete optical solution for military and industrial optical networks.
Available in single- or dual-port versions, the Mercury converters are designed for military, aerospace, and industrial applications with high levels of shock and vibration and extreme temperature ranges.
This new series comprises integrated optoelectronic transmit and receive functions with media conversion circuitry in a panel-mount MIL-DTL-38999 connector assembly. Optical transmitters are either high-output 850 nm VCSEL lasers or 1310 nm LEDs, while optical receivers consist of PIN assemblies with GaAs or InGaAS preamplifiers and limiting post-amplifiers.

Electrical and power signal interfaces reach the Mercury series converters via MIL-DTL-38999 connectors, enabling compatibility with MIL-STD-461K and MIL-STD-704.
These MIL-DTL-38999 connectors provide sealed interfaces that, when joined, form watertight models compliant with MIL-STD-810. The multimode fiber optic interface supports applications where the distance or bandwidth of the copper cable link makes the use of twisted-pair, twinax, or quadrax copper conductors impractical.
The Mercury series is ideal for outdoor network communications and display systems that require reduced size, weight, and cost, as well as robustness in harsh environments.
To meet the demands of these environments, the new media converters feature excellent thermal characteristics, high shock and vibration tolerance, and corrosion resistance through non-electrolytic nickel or cadmium (military green) plated enclosures for exceptional EMI/RFI performance.
The features are completed with an operating temperature range of -40 to +85 °C with a storage temperature of -55 to +100 °C, link distances of up to two kilometers and power from a +28 Vdc source (between 18 and 36 Vdc).
