Through this project, Grupo Eurona Telecom will cover the most important commercial and tourist enclaves of the fifth most important city in the country, which today is a strategic business and industrial center, with a population of one million inhabitants, as well as a reference tourist center with about two million visitors each year.
With this project, the city of Cartagena becomes one of the first in the Americas to develop an advanced wifi network, which will allow the creation of communication and business synergies between public administrations, companies and users and thus configure in the long term a wifi 'supranet' oriented towards the smart city.
This operation is in line with the fulfillment of the forecasts for the 2015 fiscal year included in the Strategic Plan, which places the "WiFi Caribbean" axis as one of its main growth poles, while positioning it as a reference operator in the region in the management and operation of wifi networks in hotels in Latin America and the Caribbean, where it will serve approximately 70,000 rooms.
At the same time, Grupo Eurona, through its subsidiary Eurona Telecom Colombia, is participating in different wifi hotspot and home connectivity projects to extend its deployment in a country with great economic potential and an attractive demographic structure, where 53% of the population is under 29 years old, which means a greater number of users familiar with the digital environment.
Recently in Mexico, Grupo Eurona announced an agreement in principle to acquire 100% of the capital of the Mexican operator Ecnex, for which it has already signed a letter of intent and is currently closing the due diligence process.
