This international standard is not mandatory and is initiated at the request of companies. It establishes requirements for optimizing energy consumption and efficiency, as well as for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It provides the most appropriate methodology for identifying, managing, and controlling energy expenditure and implementing the necessary measures to reduce it. Through this certification, an independent body recognizes the integration of energy management into the company's daily practices.
In the case of Interxion data centers, the electricity consumption of both the shared infrastructure (generators, cooling systems, UPS) and the customers' own equipment is monitored. This monitoring and the established procedures facilitate the assessment of areas for savings, the measures to be defined, and the elements to be replaced for greater efficiency.
“This new ISO 50001:2011 certification guarantees our environmental commitment to our clients and endorses our sustainability policy. As a specialist in data center management, we work to constantly improve the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and energy performance of the infrastructure, promote the purchase of products and services that guarantee energy savings, and use 100% green energy,” explains Robert Assink, General Manager of Interxion Spain.
In its effort to be an example in efficient energy management, Interxion adds this certification to those already obtained, such as the R&D&I certification, the LEED Gold seal, the ISO 14001 standard or the certification of the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) for 100% green electricity supply.
