Intracom Telecom, a Greek company headquartered in Spain, specializes in ultra-broadband connectivity for rural areas. Its WiBAS™ FWA fixed wireless access technology is already in use in several European countries, and this new project will involve a large-scale deployment of its systems.
Open Fiber aims to bring connectivity to 20 million Italians in 20 regions of the country, utilizing Intracom Telecom's systems in areas with more challenging access, such as rural and sparsely populated areas. The company has obtained a concession from the public company Infratel—the implementing body for the Italian government's Broadband Plans—which aligns with the EU's 2020 objectives of providing universal broadband coverage and reaching at least 50% of households with speeds exceeding 100 Mbps.
The telecommunications platform, which operates in the licensed 26 and 28 GHz bands, provides an air interconnection capacity similar to that of a terrestrial connection.
WiBAS™ FWA technology requires minimal yet robust telecommunications infrastructure, enabling rapid deployment—essential when working in geographically challenging areas. The system features advanced algorithms to dynamically allocate resources, maximizing the number of concurrent users, and includes automations designed to simplify installation and user provisioning.
The solution is also equipped with the uniMS™ network management and monitoring system, a tool designed to simplify system handling and manage the product lifecycle, from network planning to the operational phase and optimization of the entire network.
