For the fifth consecutive year, the Eclipse IoT Working Group, a subgroup of the Eclipse Foundation, is launching its annual IoT competition. As in previous years, CONTACT will sponsor the event and serve on the judging panel. Participants have until December 7, 2018, to submit their proposals, and the 10 most innovative will receive a starter kit and technical support for developing their IoT applications.
The main criteria for evaluating individual projects will be their practical applicability to specific industrial sectors, such as Smart Cities, Industry 4.0, or Remote Health, as well as the completeness of the solution. The jury will announce the 10 projects that will receive the starter kit before the end of the year, and they will then have until mid-March 2019 to implement their projects.
"Open source technologies play an important role in the development of IoT solutions. Getting different 'things' to communicate with each other is a difficult task, and the solution lies in using open source software, and interfaces and protocols based on open standards, which in turn help meet reliability and time-to-market requirements," says Dr. Nicole Drechsler, IoT expert at CONTACT Software and a member of the competition jury.
"That's why we're members of the Eclipse IoT Working Group and support this competition. It's a forum for developers from around the world to establish open standards and open source code, and to share ideas and results. Open standards and transparency are key to digitalization," emphasizes Drechsler.
