Alcatel-Lucent has further strengthened its cooperation with SOFTBANK TELECOM Corp. (SBTM), one of Japan's leading operators, to upgrade its backbone network and support the transformation towards fixed-mobile convergence.
Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its next-generation optical network solution, capable of evolving up to 100 gigabits per second (100G), to significantly increase the performance and speed of the service, which will cover the country's three largest cities (Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka), where half of the Japanese population resides.

Following the recent clarification of the regulatory framework for the deployment of very high-speed broadband, Orange is confident that the conditions are now in place to resume its fiber investments.
