In the gas, oil, and energy industries, and more generally in the field of hazardous liquid transport, industrial risks are of paramount importance. One of the critical aspects of these activities lies in the buried pipelines and networks used to transport these liquid materials. Many workplace accidents with serious consequences are directly related to the unintentional perforation or rupture of buried and poorly located pipelines. This is primarily due to incomplete mapping or the fact that pipeline location techniques are complex and sometimes difficult to apply.

To address this important problem, RYB, together with CEA-Leti, has developed the first comprehensive wireless detection and communication system for buried pipeline systems: ELIOT® Technology (Earth Object Location and Identification Equipment)

Dedicated to the detection of gas, oil, and flammable material transport networks, this innovation is a major technological advancement that represents a fundamental shift in pipeline network monitoring and maintenance, reducing industrial risks and the costs associated with accidentally cracked pipelines during construction. This technology also enables advanced traceability of buried pipelines, both in terms of infrastructure asset management and maintenance.

The new generation of RFID technology developed by RYB and CEA-Leti is registered and protected by international patents. It has a detection capability of up to 1.50 m deep, or even more, with a horizontal accuracy of only a few centimeters.

These next-generation RFID tags are integrated directly into the pipe or a section of the network at regular intervals using a patented process. The information is then encoded and embedded into each chip or tag.
Autonomous marking systems can be used to identify buried pipelines.
