The president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu; the CEO of GSMA, John Hoffman; the president of Telefónica Spain, Emilio Gayo; and the CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona, Carlos Grau, have presented the 5GStadium-Immersive Reality in Sports project, which is part of the 5G Barcelona initiative to consolidate the Catalan capital as the leading 5G hub in Europe.
Telefónica and FC Barcelona showcased live footage from Camp Nou at MWC19 Barcelona, along with exclusive content from the first team's training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper stadium, and a virtual tour of the stadium. The aim was to demonstrate how 5G technology is revolutionizing the way we watch television content.
The placement of 360º cameras in various locations around Camp Nou, without the need for cables, allows for an immersive experience to be broadcast to any viewer at home. With virtual reality glasses, viewers can watch the match from the VIP box, near the goal, close to the benches, or, in short, choose any viewpoint they want at any given moment, seeing and hearing the game as if they were on the pitch. Telefónica, in collaboration with VREstudio, has developed a virtual reality application that allows live access to this sporting experience during MWC19 Barcelona.
