According to Dell'Oro Group data, Infinera held the second position in the global long-haul optical network market in the first quarter of 2010, with a 15% revenue share in long-haul DWDM. Infinera's global revenue grew 44% year-over-year to $95.8 million, as reflected in the company's earnings report. During the same period, worldwide long-haul DWDM revenue increased by only 1.3% to $575.4 million, according to Dell'Oro Group data. In recent months, Infinera has expanded its geographic reach, acquiring leading service providers such as NTT in Japan, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica International Wholesale Services, and OTEGLOBE, as well as the rapidly growing European transport companies COLT and Tiscali.
According to Dell'Oro Group data, Infinera achieved a record 39% market share in the North American long-haul DWDM market in the first quarter of 2010, its largest share ever and more than double that of the second-largest provider. Infinera has held the top spot in revenue in the North American long-haul networking market for the past three years. Infinera's US revenue increased 54% to $76 million year-over-year, according to Infinera's revenue reports. In contrast, the US long-haul DWDM market declined 8% to $177.3 million year-over-year, according to Dell'Oro Group data. Infinera attributes its growth during this period to an increase in customers, as well as the strong performance of Infinera's existing customers in the telecommunications market. Infinera's U.S. customers include major coast-to-coast networks such as Cox Communications, Global Crossing, Internet2, and XO Communications, as well as two large Internet content providers. In the first quarter of 2010, Infinera added five new customers to its roster.
Infinera customers benefit from Infinera's unique features, such as rapid deployment, network efficiency, and ease of operation. These features are designed to enable Infinera customers to better respond to their users. Infinera's speed and simplicity are due to the design of Infinera's DTN digital architecture, which is designed to combine digital bandwidth management, high-capacity optical transport, and intelligent service with GMPLS on a single platform.
"Infinera continues to lead the market because our networks offer capabilities that help customers build better networks, streamline their operations, and deliver better services to their customers," said Tom Fallon, CEO of Infinera. “These market share figures are gratifying because they reflect the support and trust that our customers place in us and our products.”
